The Staten Island Green Charter School (SIGCS) is in the process of applying for its charter authorization from the State University of New York (SUNY).
The school anticipates opening in August 2013 with grades K, 1, 2, and 6; after which it will grow into a K-8 college preparatory school with the class of 2015 as its first graduates.
SIGCS will provide a standards-driven education that integrates high-quality environmental education. The school will provide its students with experiential learning that uses math, reading, science, and writing skills in the context of unusual opportunities for urban students to be outdoors and develop an understanding about what being green means, and how preparing for newly evolving careers will help ensure a better future for all.
All interested parents and community members can give their valued support by contacting us and joining the growing number of people borough-wide who are behind the effort in Staten Island to welcome a new school that prepares its children to become caring environmental stewards who will be able to pursue the newest jobs on the horizon in our changing world.
Admissions will be by lottery if the number of applicants exceeds the number of available seats.
Please email Dr. Carole Reiss at: creiss1952@gmail.com for a petition form. She welcomes all questions and your support.
Thank you for your interest in our K-8 Green Charter School, where students prepare for future careers in a green economy through a K-8 college preparatory program that includes environmental discovery.
